Ostrich egg: a large white egg less than 1/8th inch thick. The shells are generally white to a cream color and pitted. Approx. 5 and a half inches long by 5 inches wide and weighing about 3 lbs, when full. Because of the thick shells Carving is more easily accomplished three dimensionally. Using high speed tools I can achieve different depths and textures without the worry of shattering the egg. With this particular egg some of the thinest parts of the remaining shell, after carving, are no thicker than a regular piece of paper.

Emu egg: it is also a thick shelled egg usually green to an almost black color. When the shells are created they are created in layers which allows for variations in the layer colors. This helps to create colorful "painted" works of art. Emu eggs are approx. 5 inches tall by 3 and a half inches wide, just a bit more than 1/16th inch thick. They weigh approximately 1 and a half to 2 lbs before being emptied.
